New Spheres Release: 0.9.9.4

by Michael Colombo on July 6, 2009

We released a new version of Spheres last night. This release highlighted several items related to the usability and onboarding of the application. We have learned a lot in the last couple of months from our private beta users, feedback for which we are very grateful! What we have heard is that folks need more from us to help them get up and running with the application more quickly. So we have added several things to the product that will hopefully aid in that process, and we have several more slated for the next release

In addition to the user experience enhancements, we have completed some significant under-the-hood optimizations that should provide you with a faster, smoother, more stable experience overall.

Here are the release notes for your perusal…and please let us know if we are missing something that you’d like to see in future releases :)

We improved:

Sign up process: New intro pages and a revised workflow (we ditched some unneeded screens)

Invite process: Now you don’t need to add a person’s first and last name anymore, making it easier/faster for you to invite all of your friends and coworkers.

Navigation:We’ve made it easier to expand into full view, edit your profile, create a 1:1 Sphere and click on files from within discussions

Speed:If time is money, we just made a deposit in your piggy bank. Sphere’s speed has kicked it up a notch

We changed:

  • The word “Discussions” has changed to “Conversations.” This is a wordsmithing experiment, but one that the Sphere’s team thinks sounds more appropriate

We added:

  • A blog (ahem, you know that if you are reading this!)
  • A monthly newsletter
  • Voiceover to our fun product demo. Check it out…the voice is pretty smooth
  • Forgot password links within the sign in/up screen
